What career were you in before becoming a TFS firefighter?

I was an animal keeper in Victoria and studying a Bachelor of Science.

Why did you want to become a firefighter?

It seemed like it would be a fulfilling career with the ability to help the community and offer different areas to specialise in.

What do you love about your job?

Every day is different. I get to work with a great group of people and I have a good work life balance.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to apply to become a TFS firefighter?

Be prepared for a bit of hard work, but know it’s worth it.

What would you say to someone who’s often wondered, but never applied to become a TFS firefighter?

Give it a go! You won’t regret it.

What career development opportunities are available to you as a firefighter?

The role of a firefighter is so diverse. I have the ability to specialise in different rescue and firefighting disciplines such as HAZMAT, rope rescue and urban search and rescue.

What are your future aspirations within the TFS?

I want to continually improve and be the best firefighter I can. Then see where my career takes me.

How does the role fit with your lifestyle?

Very well, I’m left with enough time out of work to do what I want.

What interests do you have outside of work?

Bushwalking, woodworking and spending time around the house.
