2022 North West Recruitment Process

Applications for firefighter positions in Burnie and Devonport closed on Wednesday 16 November.

Not only are we seeking recruit firefighters for a recruit course in June 2023*, we’re also seeking interest from experienced firefighters who have worked for other career fire agencies to join us through our lateral entry program from April 2023.

Check the list of recognised career firefighting agencies prior to completing your application.

Applications for both positions can be made at the Tasmanian Government Jobs website.

Please note: these jobs are specifically for Burnie and Devonport and a commitment to working in the region will be required.

About the North West Coast of Tasmania

North West Tasmania is known for its clean air, rugged beaches, fresh produce, green pastures and relaxed lifestyle.

As a firefighter on the North West you’ll work at either Burnie and Devonport stations in a crew of four. Career crews at these stations most commonly respond to structure fires, hazardous materials incidents and road crashes and are supported by TFS volunteers.

Devonport station is known for having the best view of any fire station in Tasmania, overlooking the Mersey where the Spirit of Tasmania is docked.

The North West has a training facility in Burnie, and career staff support our volunteer brigades in the region, meaning there’s plenty of opportunity for career diversity and progression.

On the Coast you’ll not only be part of the TFS team, but also a close-knit community.

Statewide Recruitment Process

TFS runs selection processes for firefighters when we have vacant positions. That’s why our current focus is on the North West Coast.

At this stage we anticipate recruiting statewide in mid-2023 for a recruit course in the first half of 2024, subject to vacancies.

We’ll be holding Come and Try Days and information sessions throughout the first half of 2023. Keep an eye on this website and the TFS Facebook page for more details about how you can participate.
