By making an application for a firefighter position, you will be required to commit to the dates detailed below as you move through each stage of the process. An inability to attend any stage for any reason will results in your application being withdrawn.

Key dates for the 2025 Firefighter Selection Process are:

Stage 1: Written application:

  • Applications for Firefighter will open on Wednesday 16 June 2025 and close at 5pm on Thursday 3 July 2025.
  • Written applications will undergo an initial review to ensure all criteria have been met and instructions have been followed prior to candidates being progressed through to the next stage.

Stage 2. Physical Fitness Assessment (Shuttle Run)

  • Burnie: Sunday 27 July 2025
  • Launceston: Wednesday 30 July 2025
  • Hobart: Saturday 26 July (all day) and Monday 28 July (evening) 2025
  • If candidates have a legitimate reason that they cannot attend an in-person shuttle run, contact should be made with recruitment@fire.tas.gov.au after applications close to arrange a remote shuttle run. Remote shuttle runs must be completed between Wednesday 17 July and Wednesday 20 July 2025.

Stage 3. Cognitive Ability and Psychometric Assessment

Stage 4. Physical Abilities Assessment

  • This stage will be conducted at TFS Cambridge Training Facility (Hobart) in mid-September, with a specific date TBC. This will be conducted on a week day.
  • Pre-testing medical clearance must be provided.
  • A familiarisation session will be held on Monday 7th October and all candidates are encouraged to attend.
  • Shuttle run validations for remote candidates will be held during the same period.
